"The History of the Monsoon" is a beautiful and profound film that expresses the intended message in a loud and clear way, in a very limited way.
The story revolves around the theme LGBTQ +, about the story of a young woman making an inevitable face-trip about her identity to the man she had seen over the past month. As they ride to their meeting point, many people who point to different stages of love and acceptance - whether the taxi driver, the old couple or the teenage girl you share with the taxi or the driver - encounter two things she longed to remember.
Conkun Sen Sharma is a vision. It goes beyond the beauty of the film with its impeccable performance. Seasonal monsoon is a play of emotions and feelings, with rare dialogues, and Konkona justifiably justify them, through their expressions and behavior.
The film, written by Ghazal Daliwal, is a good part of communication that speaks less words and larger dialogues. The character of Konkuna is a woman who lives in peace with herself, but she struggles to find her place in society. Through the editing of the footage, the film presents its experiences with people who discover its identity and hope for it. Even after all the negative responses, she has never felt bitter, and has kept hope since her childhood, that it will take some time, but it will happen.
Monsoon history is a major reflection of our society when it comes to the LGBTQ + community. The iconic decision of the Supreme Court in 2018, which criminalizes colonial law, has paved the way for change, but we have a long way to change the perception of society. Movies like the history of Monsoon Date remind us that they are ordinary humans like you and me, and that there should be no "us" and "them".
